So I have a Dell Inspiron 5559 laptop. What is the best way to get better gaming performance? I was looking online and saw some solutions but they're expensive as hell

Thanks

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can really do. The Radeon R5 M335 dedicated GPU is actually not that much more powerful than the Intel HD 520. While there are a handful of laptops that do allow you to upgrade the dedicated GPU, these specific laptops are $1,400+ gaming laptops and replacement mobile GPU cards (MXM form factor) are typically at least $300+ and those are the lower end ones that are sold on ebay.

About the only thing you can do is to make sure there is no bloatware on your laptop and to play games that are not very demanding... which is the vast majority of modern games. You likely have to look at older games if you want decent performance.

About the only thing I can recommend is that you save up money for a laptop...

About the only thing I can recommend is that you save up money for a laptop that is more capable of playing games in the future. Just to give you an idea... the least expensive new laptop with a dedicated GPU costs $600 when not on sale. The link to that Acer laptop is below; it has a low power quad core i5-8250u CPU and a nVidia mx150 which is currently considered to be a "mainstream" GPU. If that GPU was released around 2016, then it would be considered an "entry level" gaming GPU. It's performance is between a nVidia GTX 950m and GTX 960m.

The link below has benchmarks for the mx150.

I am pretty sure this is not the type of answer you want... spending more money on a different laptop, but it is really your only option. Of course, purchasing a used or refurbished laptop can lower the cost, but that may still be too high for your liking. For now the only real advice I can give is to start saving up money. You should shoot for at least $400 for a use / refurbished laptop and at least $600 for a new laptop. Come back when you think you have enough money or if you have questions.
