Hi guys, quick question. I have Nvidia Shield TV 2017 and I have large MKV file library and lately I am collecting and RIPPING in to 4K HDR with Atmos Audio Track. I am trying to play them on Shield and I am getting dark picture. For people that don't know dark picture means not all data being transmitted to TV, that is why TV don't know what to light-up and when. Needless to say when I play same 4K HDR file on TV with External Drive or something no problems at all but I am missing my Atmos because ARC does not support HD audio. So what I am missing ?

My setup is Shield -->4K HDR Compatible AVR --> TV

I tried several players including Kodi and I am getting same dark picture.

P.S.

IT's same problem with Windows 10 right now. Try playing at video file with HDR on it, you'll see same Dark picture when connecting to TV even if advanced colors are on in Windows.

Any suggestions ?

Thank you!

I think what Marcuss_95 meant is to connect the Shield directly to the TV not just the HDD storing your movies to the TV with USB. That tests the files and TV but not the Shield or receiver. This is just to troubleshoot not a fix.
If the darkness is gone then you need to look at the receiver, its' setup and connecting cables.
If the darkness persists then the Shield has to be the cause of the problem.

If your TV doesnt support HDR10 or Dolby Atmos, HDR metadata shouldn't be transfered to your TV. Instead using your ARC directly, use your TV directly instead and see if it made any difference

Have you actually read my OP ?

Don't you see I am stating if connected directly to tv using external HDD it works ? So yes my TV supports HDR10.
Now, what this has to do with Atmos ? Are you talking about getting Atmos track and converting it to crappy 2 speakers ? Yes it does that as well but I don't want it. I have a very nice audio system I want to use.

I mean I know you're trying to help but understand issue before answering, I am clearly someone who wants HDR 4K (silly to try getting 4K and HDR without 4K/HDR TV) with HD Audio , it can be Atmos or TrueHD or DTS-HD with 7.1 Master track. I mean what is the point to have such track on TV ? I am using my Atmos 7.1.4 Setup. Also I am sure you know but Audio Return Channel is used when you want to get audio originated from your TV to your AVR, like using YouTube TV app on your TV and watching Movie in 5.1 DD.

Thank you for your suggestion.
