I have a 4 year old AlienWare 17 running Windows 7 indicating weak battery and suggests replacement. I replaced battery with new and 3 out of 5 times I get the sudden death right about sign in time. I got a second new battery and same problem. I have posted all Dell and Microsoft updates. If I put the old battery back I get the weak battery message but it doesnt sudden death.

The problem never presents when plugged into power only when booted on battery.

Sudden death is defined as instant power off.

The batteries you got, are they aftermarket ones? If so, that could be your problem. Some devices do not like to run at all with alternate batteries. Also, it is completely possible that the specs of the batteries are not the same as the original. Where they are not putting out the right amount of power needed to start the device.

If it is aftermarket ones you got, I would really consider returning them and get a OEM battery.

I am trying to get original batteries but since R1 batteries are discontinued I can never be sure if the claimed OEM batteries are really OEM batteries. I have purchased from two different suppliers that claim OEM. They do work every second or third boot...just not consisten.

Since it is a 5 year old computer I'm not going to spend any more time on it. I usually don't work on even 4 year old laptops but since this was an Alienware gaming system I thought I would give it a try. Thanks for all the assists.
