I was using MacBook Air 2014 (Core i5, 8GB RAM) for Android development, but there is nothing "Heavy Duty" about this machine so don't expect miracles. Android Studio will work just fine, google chrome almost fine ( I remember I used to use Safari because it was less demanding ), but the emulator was just too much for it. I mean it started and all, but it was slow, also the low res display does not help - apps looks like crap on it. I would recommend using physical device for testing, even if you have to buy one just for this purpose (there is lot of cheap new and used devices out there). I for example bought the Amazon's cheapest 7'' fire tablet in Christmas discount.
