A reset is like a re-install, just without fully formatting the drive. The built-in utility gives you the option to keep your personal files (documents, pictures, music, etc) and automatically retains device drivers but any third party programs will be removed and have to be re-installed.

What kind of game were you trying to download, and from where? Free games (or downloads of any kind) especially from anything but well known sites cause trouble like this.

If nothing can clean out the infection, consider a windows reset from the settings app as the last option. It can retain your files but you'll have to re-install your programs.
