I have comcast cable what does a dtv tuner do

I believe the DTV tuner allows the reception of digital over the air channels (local broadcasting via an antenna) the signals and tv used to only be analog and needed DTV tuner boxes to make them (analog tvs) ready for the digital change over.
IDK for sure but if you have comcast cable tv they may not carry local tv and give you the tuner to get it. most current flatscreens have a dtv tuner built in.
