Looking to connect my TV to the internet.

I've Sony Bravia EX42 Wi-Fi ready TV which I bought in 2012. I didn't knew about WiFi ready at that time, but now that I do understand. I really want to connect it to WiFi, but I'm unable to do so. How do I do it, with an affordable or inexpensive device which could help me do so.

Most internet companies internet routers come equipped with WiFi. Find out if yours is, if so, the SSID and password are usually on the bottom of the router.

If not you can ask your ISP for one, but they charge an additional monthly fee, although this is the easiest route.

EBay has cheap WiFi modems, you need to coonect one using an Ethernet cable from you ISP internet modem to the WiFi modem.

"WiFi Ready" usually means it will work with an optional WiFi dongle; however often this will be a proprietary dongle you have to buy from Sony; I had a friend in the same situation; in the end he hard wired the TV to his router as the Sony dongle was no longer available.

You havent given the full model number, so I have been unable to check if this model has wifi built in, or needs a dongle.

your television is a standard 1080p LCD tv, not a Smart trv (meaning it doesn't have the ability tio connect directly by itself to the network to get the ineternet

to be honest connecting to your WIFI is only the beginning of what can be achieved.
