Power distribution problem

My laptop doesn't turn on. Last week while I was using it the battery stopped charging, after that it kept working until the battery ran out of power. I bought a new power adapter, thinking that it was the issue, but it still doesn't work. So I removed the battery but the laptop doesn't seem to receive power. The light on the charger keeps blinking indicating some sort of short circuit. In fact if I unplug the pin connecting the power supply to the motherboard the blinking stops. Plugging just the battery as a power source seems to work, but of course I have no way of charging it. So it seems to me that the problem is in the power distribution from the DC input. How can I solve it?

Solution
As long as you did not buy some cheap knock-off power supply, issue seems to be on the motherboard or charging port if that is separate.
