In Windows 10 the touch pad apparently is not functioning as a pointer does not appear on the screen. Removing batter, unplugging and holding start button for 10 seconds and then returning battery and power plug, staring up and immediately pressing F2 key repeatedly and then pressing F9 key and Enter, pressing F10 key and Enter hasn't worked.

I am using a mouse. I don't know that this machine was upgraded to Win10. I was given it
as a gift. It worked well for a while. The touch pad functioned. I lost it once with Google Chrome but I got it back but now I have lost it again.
I read a solution about removing the battery and plug and pressing start for 10 seconds, then replacing power source, either or both and starting again pressing F2 as one does it. Then F9 and F10.
I got those screens about changes that were being made, a kind of reset of settings or something but I didn't really read them. I had been working on the problem for a long time and not interested in wasting time but it did not work.
I guess I will try it again today.
Could it have to do with Win 10 because the solution had to do with Win 8.1?

I just tried it again but it did not even load those boxes I saw before. In fact pressing F2, either by holding it from before even pressing start to pressing it repeatedly when starting it brought me to the log in again. That's of course not what I want.
