So I want to try to fix this 8 years old xxodd xni88cu for fun, but I can't find the CMOS battery. Does anyone have any idea where it is?

Solution
probably on the other side of the pcb... normally with lappys you will see 2 wires going into some heatshrink sleeving that contains a battery if its not mounted in a battery bracket..
generally there not easy to get to as removal can disable the bios password which in turn can allow thieves to sell them on as working kit.

hmm, first time I've run into a laptop that does not have a cmos battery. it's s a 2011 Sony Vaio Model PCG-41214L, Product Name: VPCSA21X it's stuck on a turn on / turn off loop. no information anywhere and CMOS is M.I.A. How canthe other person who posted, quote "probably on the other side of the pcb..." PROBABLY ? REALLY? this one doesn't have one, I disassembled it all the way to the bone and have pictures to prove it.

This is what the Manual says to do to get into BIOS:Turn on the computer and press the F2 key repeatedly until the VAIO logo disappears. The BIOS setup screen appears. If the screen does not appear, restart the computer and try again.

But No Mention of CMOS battery.

I, Stand Corrected.... yeah guess I needed to Rant and Voila' after countless hours days found a youtube showing a complete disassembly, including removal of motherboard and there it is, ML 1220 -M3(HLF) 0414.11 Piece Of Caca. anyway this battery is a Maxwell 3V Rechargeable battery. they could've made it where you don't have to take out the motherboard. if you cut a hole between where the first usb finishes and third usb starts, that's where cmos is at. I don't recommend it. At Your Own Risk, cut with a dremel tool, but don't go thru. you can finish with other sharp object scratching your way thru.

I am Master Jeweler / Goldsmith and my jewelers tools come in handy, can be done the scratching method. Anyway, will see if removing the cmos took care of the ending loop. I will keep you posted.

your choice of word "Probably" I didn't agree with. even though you were correct, you guessed. but made me want to prove it to myself.
