I will mostly be using the new laptop for producing music on Ableton.
My typical ableton session would consist of say some samples, 10 serums, a couple of sylenths and a reasonable about of audio effects. Nothing like a whole orchestral set, but imagine house/electronic dance music at a near to professional level.

I have found a couple of laptops I am interested in with two different makes of cpu. I was wondering what would be better for this purpose:

1. Asus with a AMD 7 1700 https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-GL702ZC-GC104T-17-3-inch-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B073Q4G661/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1526420581&sr=1-1&keywords=1700+ryzen+laptop

2. Dell with i7-7700hq (Has a much lower cpu benchmark score, but higher single rating) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Inspiron-15-5-Inch-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B078QBZGSF/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1526420679&sr=1-1&keywords=7700hq+laptop+16gb

3. I have also looksed at laptops with Coffee lake inside. This computer is a little bit more in price but my budget may stretch to this if it is worth it. This being i7-8750h https://www.amazon.com/8th-Gen-i7-8750H-processor-FireCuda-GL503GE-ES73/dp/B07BPB158F/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1526420885&sr=8-11&keywords=i7-8750h+laptop+16gb

Ryzen 1700, it will be far better for your needs. Im sure the i7-8750h is good also but I woudl save the money and just get the 1700. And since the new Ryzen 2s have come out the laptop may go on sale.

Question from b5022527 : "AMD 1700 or i7-7700hq (i7-8750h) laptop for ableton"

My typical ableton session would consist of say some samples, 10 serums, a couple of sylenths and a reasonable about of audio effects. Nothing like a whole orchestral set, but imagine house/electronic dance music at a near to professional level. Ableton I have heard is A LOT more beneficial using faster stronger cores compared to say more of them
