I have a pair of Razer Kraken headphones that won't recognize the mic
they work fine when plugged into a phone but not when in the splinter to the pc
what can I do to remedy this?

Solution
Ok only thing I can think of, is the adapter is having connection problems since the mic works with the single plug on the phone. A second possibility is the mic jack you are using is having a connection problem.

If you have front panel jacks for headset/mic you can try swapping out to the rear jacks on the mobo (or vice-versa) and see if that resolves the problem. Or a second PC or laptop to test would also work. If it does not work still the adapter is suspect.
Try adjusting your mic levels, right-click your speaker icon and select "recording devices". Right-click on your mic and select "properties". There are 2 tabs, "listen" and "levels". Select "listen" first, and enable the check box for "listen to this device". This should allow you to hear your mic live in your headphone. Then select the "levels" tab. If you are using on-board realtek, there should be two sliders, one for level and one for boost. Adjust higher as necessary until you can hear the mic.

Nothing has changed
my headset mic works when using the single 3.5 mm port on a phone

ah I see, there should be an adapter for the PC or for phone - if there is a single TRRS plug on the end, there should be an adapter to have separate audio and mic plugs like this one or alternatively have 2 separate plugs on the headset and an adapter like this one to use for phones.

It is possible you are not using the adapter to split the connectors to use it for PC, or are using the adapter for a single plug and using it on your audio output plug.

Which connections do the headset have?
