Is there a way to switch the primary and secondary functions of certain keys on my laptop keyboard?

I have an MSI laptop (GS63 VR Stealth pro). Like with many laptops, there are some keys on the keyboard that share a button, and you can use the secondary key by holding the FN button. PAGE UP and HOME share the same key on this keyboard. The same is true for PAGE DOWN and END. I use HOME and END far more often than their alternatives, but these are the secondary keys. Is there a way to swap the primary and secondary functions of these keys so that I can avoid pressing FN each time?

After a few days I found the answer to my own problem (although unfortunately it's brand specific). The MSI keyboard is made by SteelSeries, and their "SteelSeries Engine 3" program lets me edit my individual key functions. It considers primary and secondary button functions to be separate keys, so I just swapped the functions for both buttons.

Many other keyboard brands probably have something similar, so if you're stuck that might be the best place to look. Hope this helps anyone looking for a solution in the future!

Hi Alex, I just purchased a MSI GL73 8RC) laptop and want to swatch the function of by "Delete" key with the "Pause/Break" key. I want the delete function directly above the "backspace" key. Is this possible using the "SteelSeries Engine 3" program? Thank you for your help. David

Hi David. You can absolutely do this, and I've made a quick visual guide to show you how. The steps are as follows:

    ■ Open the SteelSeries Engine program
    ■ Select the keyboard you want to change.
    ■ Select the keys you want to change
    ■ Choose a new function for each key (in this case, choose "Delete" for the "Pause/Break" key, and vice-versa)


Please keep in mind this will only work while the SteelSeries Engine is running in the background. If you end the process or restart your computer (and the SteelSeries Engine doesn't begin on startup), then you will need to start the program again in order for the changes to take effect. Hope this helps :)
