I turned my hp laptop off during a windows 10 update. Now if i turn it on it shows the hp loading screen then a white box appears for a second it then says: returning to the previous version of windows. Then the screen turns black i hear a click then it all starts again. What should i do

If you turn the system off by depressing the power button mid way into the boot sequence, doing so, three times in succession then you should be able to bring up the recovery mode for the OS and allow you to repair the OS and then continue to GUI, however often times it's seen that the end user has to reinstall the OS.
