I'm looking to buy a laptop and have narrowed down to these two.

The first one has a 7th gen i5.
Dell-Inspiron-3567 with i5

Edit: I occasionally might do some light video editing.
The 2nd has a 6th gen i3 but 2GB dedicated graphics card
Dell-Inspiron-3567 with 2GB Graphics Card

I don't use my laptop for gaming, my tasks involve running 15-20 Tabs on Chrome, with maybe a few PDFs open in the background, could be watching a movie with these too. Which out of the above two would be a better pick?

Edit: I might occasionally do some light video editing.

Edit: Or there's a 3rd option wit- Lenovo Ideapad-i3,8GB

Both are dual-cores with 4 threads. If you need 8 threads you're looking at quad-cores.

Whether you should go for the Skylake i3 or the Kaby Lake i5 is probably more to do with the kind of editing software you'll be using. Check the hardware specs on the editing software. Generally speaking, an i3 is likely to yield marginally better battery life than an i5.

Here are the detailed specs on the Skylake i3:

Followed by the details on the Kaby Lake i5:

I edited the post, I might occasionally do some light video editing. Also, does the i5 one have 8threads?

Would the graphic card with the i3 have any role to play for video editing?

Based on the details you've provided, I'd say more RAM would be more useful to you than a dedicated GPU.

However, while 4GBs of RAM is a bit on the low end, these Dells run on DOS. In my experience, Windows 10 alone will consume close to 2GBs of RAM, so using DOS means you'll have much more RAM available from the start. It might be that 4GBs is perfectly OK for your tasks.

Well, I plan to install Ubuntu on them.
