Sound is going through the ear piece and not the mic. I got one pair of cheap headphones just for the mic and tried to use them in game but everyone said I was super quiet and they couldn't hear me so I assumed they were just shitty because they were cheap and returned them. Went to GameStop and bought some for $30 (pretty expensive for me just to talk in a game) which are trittons and I've read some reviews. People complained about the ear pieces but no one complained about the mic since it was the cheapest ones with relatively good reviews I thought I'd get them since I just rest them around my neck and the mic stands in front of my mouth. I got home and still people said I was quiet. Decided to go to the settings and mess around. Found out the mic isn't picking up any sound at all and the ear piece is taking in the sound. I've googled this and only find people complaining about playback. Can I get an opinion on this because I am pissed because I just want to be able to play a game with my friends but no mic will work it seems.

Inverted cables, you put the headphone cable into the mic and the mic cable into the headphones. Try to switch them.

then u need a converter from a single 4 pin jack to 2 x 3/2 pin jack (3 pin for heaphones, 2 pin for mic)
