My Dell Inspiron 3542 will turn on, go into a normal boot process, then die. I've tried hard booting and booting only using the AC cable. Nothing is working.
I noticed if I wait longer in between attempts at turning it on, the computer will last a bit longer before losing all power. I've looked into the issue and a lot of sources are saying to remove/replace the CMOS battery, but I'm trying to avoid that.

Thanks for any help.

Solution
You can try switch ram or boot with 1 stick in each slot. Always remove battery and cable when doing it. Try new charger or if you have multimeter test the charger voltage.

Remove all usb mouses and peripheral devices and try to boot. Use external hdmi cable and try with another monitor. IT might need a key to change output from lcd to external monitor

I can help later today further nyt this includes you disassemblying the laptop and also new cmos battery
