Recently purchase the vizio smartcast tv model D24f-Ff1 and Sony DVD player dvp-sr210p. DVD player came with the yellow white and red cables but my tv only has 2hdmi ports, usb, headset jack, an L/R port, component/composite shared port, cable/antenna port, and Ethernet port. I purchased the video component cables that are blue, green, and red and also the audio cables red and white but I’ve been playing with the wires and can’t get the tv to pick up the DVD player. Can anyone help me? What am I doing wrong or what else can I do to hook up the DVD player to the tv? The DVD player doesn’t have an hdmi port only video out yellow slot, component video out red green and blue slot, digital out coaxial orange slot, and the audio out red and white slots. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Solution
You should take that DVD player back and get an HD compatible. It isn't an HD player. It is intended for older TVs that don't have HDMI. You have an HD TV with a standard def DVD player.
I agree that spending a bit more on a BD player will be worth it.
If you need to to get that one working check the TV set up menu. If the shared input is set to composite you need to change to component. The TV may not let you select an input if it isn't active so make sure the player is turn on before you select the AV input.
