My laptop suddenly turned off and won't turn back on?

Last night I was using my Asus "F553M" and it switched itself off whilst on charge. The lights won't turn on even on charge, it's quite literally dead. I've had this laptop for a few years but It was working fine apart from going flat too quickly. Would it just need a battery replacement? Should i buy a whole new laptop?

I'm desperate as I'm a writer and I need my laptop ASAP

Take out the battery, plug in the AC power cord and try to boot it up off of the power cord. If it boots then the laptop is fine and the battery is the issue. You would simply need to replace it.
