I just put my lcd back in my laptop, and the wires were loose, then it just turned off (maybe I shorted it?). Now it does not work (black screen).

After awhile I was able to get an external monitor working with it.

So I am wondering if it is the video card (built into MB), inverter, LCD display, etc.... that is broken. Any way to tell? I am guessing LCD, but dont want to buy another unless pretty confident. It is a DV6 series laptop from HP

Solution
If it's a coil that's open, it's on the motherboard near the LCD connector, it's an easy repair, but what's the reason you put your LCD back into your laptop?

I could only find one other post here that talks about lcd coils.

"Hi, you usually have some protection on the motherboard for such a problem. You should see a burned component near the LCD connector, perhaps a coil."

1. Is this part on the lcd or MB?
2. Regardless of which, is it repairable, or cheaper to buy new part (e.g. $40 for used lcd on ebay).

If it was the video card, then an external monitor wouldn't work either.
