Microphone recording volume gradually gets lower on constant tones

So I've been using the Corsair Void RGB USB Gaming Headset for a while now, and had this issue since the beginning, and never have been able to find any solution online.

I'm trying to record myself, but whenever I need to hold a note for over a second, the recording audio just instantly drops to about half the volume and after another second it drops again.

I've tried everything at this point, reinstalling the drivers, both for the headset and for Realtek, disabling all other sound devices on the computer, closing all other applications that could use the mic, disabling the exclusive control option, changing USB ports, and probably a bunch more stuff that I'm forgetting at this point.

Nothing I do has any effect, and I can't properly record anything when my voice just jumps in volume all over the place, has anyone any idea?

Thanks.

Do you have that option that's cleaning/suppressing background noise on? Cause if the tone is continuous, it might just try to classify it as background noise and auto-mute it.

I didn't see any option like that anywhere, do you know where I can find it?

Well..are you on windows 10? If you don't have any other audio panels, you'd right click on volume icon, select recording devices, select the microphone, click on properties on the bottom, go under Enhancements and make sure noise suppression and acoustic echo cancellations are unchecked. But...if like me you have realtek drivers, you should have Realtek Audio Manager. open it, click on microphone and again make sure those same two options are unchecked.
Also sometimes headset mics advertise as having built in noise cancellation and I'm not sure if this is separate from what's in audio settings, nor am I certain how you'd turn it off if it was.

Yes, I'm on Windows 10, and am using the Realtek drivers.
Problem is, my headset is a USB connection, so it doesn't show up in the Realtek Audio Manager.
And the microphone's properties window doesn't have an enhancement tab.

I don't have the headset so it won't install, but from http://www.legitreviews.com/corsair-void-surround-gaming-headset-review_179216/3
you have two sliders, one for volume and another for sidetone which according to the article is feedback from the recording...I turned this off on mine so I can't hear myself. Play around with it. Then on the right, Clear Chat. That should be background sound suppression so try and uncheck that.
At the end of the review it also says:
With the headset plugged into the included USB dongle, microphone recorded speech was crisp, but also tinny as the microphone doesn’t have a wide response. It can also be sensitive, necessitating volume adjustment to reduce ambient sounds and noise that may be captured.
so reducing recording volume might help.

Yea, I tried playing around with the sidetone slider and all the toggles on the left, and also lowering the volume to around 30%, but nothing of that really did anything =\

I did find out that I can change the output to surround which is kind of awesome though, so atleast that wasn't all a waste haha

Heh. Have you tried talking to corsair directly? They might have a better idea what's going on. My idea was just a guess, it could be other things, and they're likely to have run into similar complaints before.

Not yet, but I guess that's my next stop haha

Well, thanks a lot for your help so far :)

Hope they do come up with something. I can't think of what else it could be. The only other option is a mobo issue but usually that's not how it manifests. Your issue sounds specific to audio settings or model of that headset.

I'm pretty sure at this point that it IS a headset issue.
I took it took work today to try on my workstation and had the same results, while my workstation's headset was recording just fine.
I took that headset home and it works fine here as well.

I just hope that the quality of Corsair's support itself is better than the UX of their support portal.
It was a hell of a time submitting the ticket to them.

Man it aint your headset problem.
It happens with all usb headsets in Windows 10.
Happens to me too. There is one solution.
Download the app Equalizer APO, change the sensibility of your mic in the app.
