I have a Sony hcd hdz235 DVD surround sound and I have a new DirecTV Genie cable box then I'm trying to run the sound to the surround sound and the video to the TV my surround sound only has an HDMI out and then it has the blue green yellow red white ports on it. Can any help

The Sony HTS connects to your TV with HDMI for DVD playback.
The Genie connect to the TV with HDMI.
You want to connect the audio output of the TV to the HTS for sound from the Genie. The HTS only has analog inputs. If the TV has headphone or analog audio out then use that. If it has digital audio out you will need to buy a digital to analog converter. Check the TV manual on how to use the audio output.
If the TV doesn't have audio outputs then you will need an HDMI audio extractor or an HDMI input selector with audio extraction. The selector will work for any source connected to it not just the Genie so it's often the better way to go.
