So I have an external hard drive that I'm plugging into my MacBook Pro. Then I'm using an HDMI to play it from a Roku TV. The image of my laptop is coming up fine on the Roku, but none of the audio is playing. When I play the sound of other tabs from my laptop they play on the TV just fine. So what I'm assuming is happening is when I set the audio output to my laptop, it isn't picking up the audio from the blu-ray player because it's an external device. So is there anything I can do about this? Also I'm not very smart so explain everything like I am 8 years old please.

That's what I'm doing, it's a Roku TV. Sorry if I wrote that unclearly.

You mean a TV with Roku app in it? There is really no such thing as a "Roku TV" since that implies it's a TV that Roku built.

When you play the video on the MacBook only, is the sound OK?

Ahhhh gotcha, then yeah it's a TV with a Roku app. And yeah, when I play it from my Mac the sound is fine, and from further experimentation the problem is actually a lot stranger, and something I assume won't be able to be solved. So I was trying to play Baby Driver on the TV, and the audio for the disk menu worked, but as soon as I started to play the actual movie it became completely mute. I then wanted to see what would happen if I put another movie in, and the audio on the menu and the movie was completely fine. So it seems that there are just certain movies that don't play any audio from the movie itself, but work fine in the menus. Not sure if there's anything that can be done with that, as it's all so specific. But I figure I may as well ask, hahahaha

Is there anyway I can change the settings? And if so, how?
