I was wondering if anyone could help me pick a laptop for school and general use. I have a few in mind, but I'd like to get some other opinions.

Currently, I'm looking at :
1. Lenovo Yoga 920 (8th Gen)
2. HP Spectre x360 (8th Gen, both 13 and 15 inch models)
3. Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (8th Gen)
4. Razer Blade Stealth (8th Gen)

I really like the Yoga, just not a fan of the keyboard's short travel.

Or, if someone has a suggestion, here's what I'm looking for:

- Budget is roughly $1500 USD, but is semi flexible

- I'd prefer something around a 14" screen, but 13 and 15 are acceptable.

- Resolution doesn't matter alot. 1440p and up is nice, but 1080p on a smaller screen is good too.

- Definitely needs to be portable, I wanna use it on the road, particularly the bus

- A long battery is a must, but I'm not in an outlet-starved environment. If I can charge it once a day at home, that's fine.

- I use my desktop for high end, but I'd like to play some small games to pass the time. Stuff like Minecraft, Thomas Was Alone, Antichamber, and other low impact titles on low/medium settings are fine.

- I'm an engineering student, I work with networking and programming, mostly Windows and Linux environments. I'd also like it for note taking, video playback, and maybe drawing so I can keep track of my DnD characters and do some visual work with Photoshop.

- For Storage, I'd like at least 256GB, but if I can get 512GB so I can comfortably dualboot WIndows and Linux, that's better.

- This is potentially a device I'd like to have long-term, maybe even until the next hardware generational jump (i.e. Intel jumping significantly with Kaby Lake to Coffee Lake, DDR3 to DDR4, etc.)

- Optical drive doesn't matter, I rarely use CDs. I can just use an external for that.

- Brands I like are many, but they usually have sleek metal designs, emphasize efficiency, and boast high power and high battery at respectable battery lives; favorites include Gigabyte, Aorus, Razer, mostly "elite gaming power" brands. Brands I don't usually like are Asus, MSI, ThinkPad, Dell Inspirion/Latitude, Acer. I'm really picky with aesthetics, so that's made for problems when looking for a device.

Razer laptops are known to be very problematic so that rules it out.

Options 1, 2, and 3 are very good laptops. If you can find them in a local store, go down to the store and check them out. Design, keyboard typing experience, display quality, and overall experience are very subjective and have to be verified in person.

Good luck :)
