Hi guys so I am thinking of putting together something in the car for the kids but will probably need some help, I am looking at doing movies and TV shows on the in car screens I already have in the back... My biggest hurdle is 99% of where we go there is no internet

So as I need a media system that works offline I am thinking KODI, I have used it in the past (before I went to plex) and it operated without a problem.
I already have a couple Raspberry pi's that I can use
So I am wondering if I am able to get a small router with a USB port in it, plug my 4TB hard drive into the router and have the raspberry pis find the movies etc that way

2x raspberry pis -- with Kodi installed
1x seagate 4tb expansion desktop drive
1x TP-Link WR1043ND 450Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router

The car came with a 1000w inverter so 240v power isnt a problem

for the setup and updates I should be able to link the 2 routers together so the in car setup will get internet every time the car sits at home giving me the ability to transfer over new files to the HDD and let it use the internet to download metdata, updates ETC

Anyone see anything im missing here before I go gun ho and find nothing is going to work

the only thing with going directly to the pis is that we would have to stop the car get out to change movies/TV shows (kids are only 2 and 6 months) the idea of the router and HDD was to be able to cast to each pi from our phone without even having to turn around we can change which ever TV we want to whatever show we want..

WAY too much infrastructure.
4TB drive? Do you really need to haul around several hundred kid level movies at the same time?

Your kids, at 2 yrs and 6 months, are WAY too young to appreciate all this work.
Temperature, vibration, glitches...

A couple of tablets, and a couple of SD cards loaded with content.

its going in a $130,000 car another couple hundred isn't really going to be a huge problem... and plus I like playing around with this stuff to make it as easy as I can for everyone... who doesnt like doing something like this?? it may never have been done before :)

Sorry mate didnt mean to come across like an Ahole just got a vision of what I want.. seeing we travel for 3 months of the year I would really like BULK movies and TV shows so the kids dont get "too" bored what I may be able to do is go

pis
router
2x4TB HDD
2xSD cards

have 1 x 4TB setup through the router, if the router dies plug in each 4TB HDD to each pi if that fails use the SD cards as a fallback should have enough fallbacks there to last a million years... unless a pi dies :p
