Solution
Actually I was just thinking ... If the key itself is the problem you can turn the wireless on and off from the command line. But first you need to know the wi-fi name. Go to Control Panel ... select Network and Sharing Center ... click on 'change adapter settings' and look to see what your wi-fi connection is called ... mine is called Wireless Network Connection 5 so my example will use that name - you use whatever the name of yours is.

right click on command prompt and select 'run as administer'

type this on the command line and then press enter:

netsh interface set interface "Wireless Network Connection 5" admin=enable

this should turn it on (Hopefully the key will go from orange to blue - but if the key is bad - the light may...

typing this:

netsh interface set interface "Wireless Network Connection 5" admin=disable

should turn it off ... if the key changed to blue with the first command ... this should change it back to orange.

I have had the same issue many times and after trying every fix out there the only thing that works every time is turning my pc off and taking the battery out for a few minutes--after you put the battery back in and get it booted up wifi will be back to normal.

Hp had a problem with windows 10 and the F48 bios compatibility. All you need to do is roll back the bios to F46 and the wireless will start working. This procedure also fixed the BSOD issue when starting up windows 10 or coming out of sleep mode.
1. Download F46 bios. Go to HP support windows 7 and look in previous bios for F46.
2. Flash the bios. Put file on desktop right click and "Run as administrator".
3. After you install it will give you a BSOD. Allow this to do it 3 times and it will go to start up repair.
4. In repair go to advance and choose other startup option and restart in safe mode.
5. When safe mode comes up just restart the computer,
6. You will be able to turn on the wireless and connect.
