New Laptop Battery

Hello,

A few days ago I bought a generic battery replacement (593553-001, 10.8v 10400mAh) for my HP Pavilion G72-a20SA laptop. The original HP battery is also 10.8v but lower capacity at 4200mAh.

I inserted the new battery. It showed 28%. I drained it to 0%, and while the laptop was powered down I plugged it into charge with my original adaptor. The LED light showed orange (charging).
After 12 hours of charging, the LED light was showing white. I powered up the laptop and the battery showed 17%.

I explained this to the eBay seller and they told me my laptop is not compatible with this new battery, despite my exact laptop model being listed as compatible on the advert, and the voltage of old and new battery being the same. The only difference is the battery capacity.

Would anyone be able to shed some light on why the new battery's larger capacity is affecting the charge to this extent?

I understand there is a calibration process for new batteries, and I did attempt to complete one cycle, but 12 hours to reach 17% seems a little off to me, given that after 12 hours of charge, the LED was white to indicate fully charged... and upon powering up, it was only at 17%.

Should I return the 10400 and purchase a smaller capacity? Could it be my adaptor? Or does the new battery sound faulty/truly not compatible with my laptop?

Any advice is very much welcomed.

Thank you

S

It is not an issue with the capacity but the fact that those generic batteries are more often junk than not. If you want a battery that will work normally and for a normal time, not just a few weeks, get an HP battery. I have yet to come across a cheap knock-off battery that is worth buying even at a cheap price.
