Hey guys I need some help finding a driver for my computer that wouldn't brick it. So about two days ago I updated my Nvidia drivers to the latest version (390.65) available to me in order to "better" my computer. I have a Lenovo Y510P with 16gb's of ram an I7-4700MQ and SLI GT 755Ms. Once the update was installed my computer was working fine but every internet tab would crash almost instantly. I couldn't open up any webpage and then my programs would also crash after a few seconds of opening them. I panicked thinking I got a bad installation or something went wrong saved all my valuable files onto a separate HDD, and reformatted my PC. All was working fine until I had to update my drivers because I could not run any games. When I Updated my drivers the same thing happened. This leads me to believe that it was not a bad installation but that the Driver gives my computer issues. I went on Lenovo's website after another reformat and downloaded an older driver (388.71). Same issue, at this point I found out you could reroll drivers through windows. If only I would have done this the first day I wouldn't be in this issue. At this point it's been two days and I can't find any graphics card driver that doesn't mess up my PC. I downloaded one driver from their website that did not cause this issue but whenever i opened up a game it would crash because of the drivers I'm assuming. It was this driver (378.92). I am hoping you guys could please help me with this as I have not been able to use my computer for 2 days now. Any help would greatly be appreciated!

"every internet tab would crash almost instantly."
Sounds like a browser hijacking/redirect. I would do a scan with malwarebytes and look at Hijackthis results.

"When I Updated my drivers the same thing happened."
What version of windows are you running? Lenovo doesn't seem to have any windows 10 drivers for this laptop.

This is the only version that Lenovo claims will work with your laptop:
https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/IDEAPAD-Y-SERIES-LAPTOPS/IDEAPAD-Y510P-NOTEBOOK/downloads/DS039244

Look for and install this as well:
NVIDIA GeForce GT755M Second VGA BIOS Update for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - IdeaPad Y410p, Y510p

"Updated Information:
Latest Version VBIOS fix SLI mode in Win8.1."

Thanks for the reply! Im sure it was not a browser issue because my entire PC was freezing and the only thing I did less than 5 minutes before was update my Nvidia driver. I downloaded the above driver and my computer is working fine however I can not run any games because the Driver is so outdated. Also forgot to mention im running Windows 8.1.

Did you update your GPU firmware to fix the SLI issue I mentioned?
What games are crashing? Older drivers don't typically cause a game to crash. They can but more often than not they fix a speed issue or graphical glitch. What if you run an old game? Do old games crash?

I eventually found a Driver that was new enough to run the games and not glitch out my PC. The game was Fortnite, and It was the Drivers because the game would tell me that those drivers were not recommended and could cause issues. Then the game would crash. And yes I updated the GPU SLI issue. Thank you for all your help!

Hi 222lu222 -

I hope you're still out there and Fortnite is running for ya :). I am having the exact same issue :/ I have the exact same Laptop and Fortnite is constantly crashing before ever entering a game.

Do you mind sharing what version of the nvidea drivers you are using to play? I updated the SLI bios issue mentioned previously but my game is still crashing.

Thanks in advance,
Sean
