I have an older Sharp Aquos 60 inch TV (2005 or 2006); with 4 HDMI inputs. When I try to run my Amazon Fire Stick (2017); nothing displays. Is the HDMI technology in the 2017 Fire Stick just too new for this older Sharp TV? Sharp gave me this answer but it seems to be the opposite of what I'm experiencing: "The main reason that the Amazon Fire stick is not compatible with this model is that most Fire- sticks require an MHL port, which is a special type of HDMI port, in order to work. Fire sticks that were manufactured in 2015 and after, do not require an MHL port and may be plugged into any HDMI port." Unless they meant 2015 and PRIOR.. then their answer would make sense to me. Would I have this same issue with a Google Chromecast?

I just installed an Amazon Fire Stick. I inserted the HDMI cable to my HDMI port and the power to make the Fire Stick run required an A/C connection.
I began having issues on startup of the television and stereo system. I purchased a 3:1 HDMI switch. I reconnected the television onto HDMI port 1, my DVD player onto port 2 and the fire stick onto port 3. This way I do not need to change connections and stereo settings whenever the television is turned on.

Thanks for your response. I talked to Sharp Tech support. My TV is a 2011 model. And it’s too old to run any of the streaming sticks. TV is HDMI 1.0; which does not have an MHL Port (current HDMI has it built in). Bottom line I can’t stream on the TV other than the built in Netflix app.

This is odd, because MHL stands for Mobile High-Definition Link. This would not have anything to do with using the Fire stick as it uses the standard HDMI connection, the same as a regular blueray player. Much, much older (non HDMI) TV's can use the Fire stick by using an HDMI to composite converter. Have you made sure to plug in the USB power lead?

Yes the usb power adapter is plugged into the wall outlet. I’ll try plugging the adapter into the USB port on the TV instead. I agree it should work. Sharp support is now saying because the TV is HDMI 1.0 it’s incompatible.

I just got my fire stick, have the same tv, same problem. Bought my Sharp in 2009 and it also does not recognize the Fire Stick. Luckily I have a Samsung in our bedroom and it works with that one, unlucky can only watch in there. Think Amazon should at least have a compatibility chart or list.

I have a very early Sharpe Aquos TV. It has scart inlets and phono. I tried attaching the Amazon Firestick via a scart lead to input 3. It recognised it but would not operate. I found a HDMI to PHONO adaptor on Amazon and connected the Firestick to the TV Phono input. Result, the fire stick works perfectly

I have a very early Sharpe Aquos TV. It is over 15yrs old. it has 3 Scart inputs on the rear of the tuner module and a Phono input under the flap at the front. I tried connecting an Amazon Firestick to the scart socket (input 3) It recognised it but would not work. I found a HDMI to Phono Adaptor on Amazon and connected it to the Phono sockets on the TV. Result, it works perfectly. NB. My Firestick is the latest version

Hi therooster87,
can you send a weblink to the kind of adaptor you are speaking about?
What are the PHONO sockets? only audio?
and how do you transimt the video? still HDMI?

so basically are you speaking about an adaptor that takes the audio out from the hdmi of the Amazon dongle?
And this is enough to make it work?

or are you speaking about this kind of adaptor?

thank you
