I just bought a new battery for my laptop because the other one stopped working. It was fine when I first put the battery in. I charged it to 100% but when I unplugged the charger the laptop powered off and I received a message when I rebooted. "Your battery has experienced permanent failure and needs to be replaced" It is obviously a problem in the laptop. But I don't know what it is. Can anyone help?

I find that extremely odd. No battery should die that quickly, That said, are you sure the charger isn't the issue? Try charging when the device is turned off. Not sleep or hibernate but actually off. If the charger will charge the battery then, it may well be that the charger is going bad and this is why you can't get it to charge any battery. It happens a lot.

If you have access to a different charger, that would work with the device of course, you may want to try using it to test if it will charge the battery when off and on. Another possible option is that the charging circuit is the problem.
