Extended monitors VGA and HDMI ports

In short, I am trying to run extended monitors with my laptop and a TV monitor. When I run HDMI to HDMI things work fine. But the TV monitor I want to use only has a VGA port, my laptop only has HDMI. So, my question is what cable/converter would i need for those ports to run extended display (not just mirrored)?

Mirrored/extended is not a function of cable. You need an active HDMI to VGA converter -- https
