Any free upscalers like PowerDVD?

Of all the media players I've used thus far, my favorite feature in a media player has been the upscaler in PowerDVD. It has a very-high-performance SD->HD interpolater and motion interpolater that seems to do a great job with DVDs, SD videos, and HD videos that are only 24FPS.

Since this software has been out and has had these features for over a decade, you would think there would be more free/open-source options.

The closest I have found is MadVR in Media Player Classic, which is apparently discontinued. In order to get any sort of advanced resolution interpolation, it bogs the PC down to a halt while not giving much of an improvement, and it doesn't have frame interpolation options.

Have you guys heard of any open-source or free software which a good feature like that of PowerDVD?

Or perhaps just a less-expensive alternative that doesn't charge you for updates and spam you with ads?

Yeah. I didn't see any upscaling options like MPC has, though. I'm still tweaking MadVR and I think I'm getting it to something pretty close. But it seems to bog down easily.
