My Toshiba satellite display has been flickering for a while now. It has intensified yesterday. The problem seems to be with the hardware.. I don't know much about laptop servicing but I managed to open it up to check if the connection between display and motherboard is fine. I disconnected and connected it again. Problem seems to persist. I've been using this laptop for 5 years now. I had the display changed during its 3rd year.
Do you think the display needs to be changed or is the problem something else?

Solution
I had the same issue two times. Both times, it turned out to be faulty cable connecting motherboard to the display. The display cable connects at the top near webcam. The cable route was towards the right edge of the display. Once changed, laptop flickering while changing display position was eliminated.
Seems like you have a loose contact between the display panel and the display PSU unit in the laptop.

I have 4 M405's and a newer M700 Toshiba Portege ... the display panels in them have been excellent.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3454994/toshiba-screen-flickering.html This user replaced the panel.

Toshiba did have one panel manufacturer who supplied poor panels to them - this is acknowledged in several forums.

Connect the laptop to an external monitor to make sure it is not a graphics card problem first.
