How much is my used laptop worth?

Just got a new laptop to replace my old one, and I'm looking into selling the old one in my community. But I am unsure of what to list it at.

Laptop is:
17.3" HP Pavilion
12gb ram
1tb HDD
Quad-Core A8-6410 (I think, currently doing fresh install of windows so can't see)
AMD Radeon R5 Graphics

Couple notes:
-The screen has a scratch in the middle roughly 3" long, although it's not too noticeable and doesn't really affect the experience. (I can include pictures if you want)
-1/3 of the USB slots wasn't working prior to this reset (perhaps the reset may fix the issue)
-It's definitely a used laptop and I'm not looking for anywhere near what I paid for it, but it is still a good functioning laptop I'm sure someone could use as a media machine/light gaming.

I'm just curious as to what a rough estimate might be, and I'll probably even go a bit lower than that as I'm selling to locals in my town.

Cut the price from new by 50% for ever year since you purchased it, and lower the price again accordingly for the damage.

My bad I meant to say I got the laptop as a gift a while back, can't exactly remember when or how much it cost.

I was hoping more based off the specs what it may be worth. I was going to put it up for a couple hundred bucks or something but if I can get more that'd be nice.

If this site is reliable then it's a cool tool that allows you to enter the general components/description of your used computer and appraise it (like those used car sites). http

Used market also depends on your area, who wants to come and get it. Me personally, i wouldn't pay a couple hundred, even if it wasn't damaged. But that's just me, you'll have to find the right person for it. Ask what you want for it, and see what responses you get.

My towns all within walking distance of eachother, and it's a small community so generally stuff is a little more expensive here. It's MUCH better spec wise than some of the laptops on Used websites that are asking 200-250. I'll probably put it up for $300 and see if there's interest. Don't need the cash in a hurry or anything either

Also I live in Canada on the west coast, and our dollar is like 0.78 right now.

That's probably not the best rule of thumb, since some hardware ages better than others. And by that formula, a 3 year old, $800 laptop would only be worth $100, but you could almost certainly get far more than that for one.

Your best bet is probably to look at the prices on ebay that similar listings have recently sold for. For example, here's a list of laptops marked "sold" that have an AMD A8 processor, 12GB of RAM, and a 17 inch screen, with a condition of either "used" or "seller refurbished"...

You could probably narrow it down further, though you might not get many results if you get too precise. In general, it looks like such laptops have sold for around $200-$350 in the last few months, though your results might vary, particularly if you're selling locally, since there might be fewer people shopping for a device with those specs in your area. And of course, any damage will likely impact what people are willing to pay.
