Hey guys!

A couple of months ago, I bought the Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB. Being in a hurry, I never really saw the manual with the little pictures on it suggesting the installation of some software on the disk before putting OS/data in it. Currently, it has Windows 10 on it and around 30% of total space covered.

Questions:
1. What does that CD contain? Is it vital?
2. Is it feasible to install the CD now?

The CD usually contains disk cloning software, so you can transfer an existing Windows installation on a HDD to the SSD. And Samsung Magician, which helps you measure the performance of the SSD, optimize Windows' settings to work best with the SSD, and checks for firmware updates.

If you installed Windows directly onto the SSD, then you probably don't need Magician. Windows should've detected the SSD and configured all the settings correctly during installation. But you can install Magician for some peace of mind, and to run the benchmarks. Don't bother with RAPID mode - all that really does is trick disk benchmark programs into giving unrealistic results, not improve performance. Windows already uses free RAM as a disk cache by...

Windows already uses free RAM as a disk cache by default (in a way which doesn't trick disk benchmark programs).

If you do wish to install it, you're better off just downloading it from Samsung's website. If you install it off the CD, the first time it runs it'll notice there's an updated version available, and download and install that. So you'll end up installing it twice. Just grab the latest version from the website to begin with.
