I have a one year old Lenovo Ideapad 100. Its running on Windows 10 and the computer looks brand new.

The thing is, the down arrow stopped working a few months after buying the laptop last year. I called their techsupport but they won't help without keeping the computer with them for at least two days.

I don't think the down arrow is a hardware problem, rather it looks like a software problem. Can someone help me solve this?

If it's not registering a keyboard input then it's simply broken. They need to keep the laptop with them for some time to analyze whats wrong exactly. You are not their only costumer that is returning something or asking for a repair so you will be without your laptop for a bit. This is why you should always have a backup pc and your data backed up to allo you to just swap onto a different pc without really missing the new one that much.

I dunno what the regular Lenovo support is like. But with the Thinkpads, you can request they send the replacement part to you or to an authorized service store nearby you. Then when the part comes in you can take it to the service center to have them swap out the bad part with the new while you wait. In your case that would be a new keyboard. That way you're only without the laptop for a few hours, not a few days. (A few days is actually pretty good - some laptop vendors will keep your laptop for weeks while they repair it.)

But like I said, I dunno if Lenovo's regular support is as good as their Thinkpad support. Also, by not addressing this problem within 1 year, you may have gone past the warranty period. They may or may not fix the problem for you. They can simply claim they "have no record" of you calling to complain about this problem before the warranty expired.

I don't think the down arrow is a hardware problem, rather it looks like a software problem. Can someone help me solve this?
That's trivial to test. Plug in an external USB keyboard and see if its down arrow works. If it doesn't, then it's a software problem. If it works, then the keyboard on your laptop is broken.

This is in Bangladesh. The last time I gave my HP laptop to a repair shop for detecting a cracking noise, they damaged the whole hinge and screen along with the webcam, microphone and attached duct tape. There are no official repair shops here.

I don't have a USB laptop with me and I will not be able to get access to one because of work difficulties. Is there any other way to test the keyboard? Like a software or uninstalling the keyboard in device manager or something similar? Also, there are no official repair shops here. I gave my old HP laptop because there was a small cracking sound near the hinge and they destroyed the hinge and screen along with the microphone and webcam and added duct tape. And these were large corporations.
