My laptop battery was dead so I bought a new one. After one day , the battery icon in the tool bar stated that it was plugged in, charging but it remained 0% charged. I returned it back and I got a refund.
Today I bought another battery. At the first use i let it fully charge then I unplugged the adapter. After about one hour my laptop shutted down and the same problem with the another battery occured.
Could the problem be my laptop or the adapter knowing that it works fine without a battery.
Thank you.

Some laptops will have a 'Battery Calibration' application. If you did a clean install, you'll have to go to the manufacturer's website to see if they have one you can download/install for your model. If so, it will require you to run this application occasionally to make sure the battery continues to operate(charge) properly.

The alternative you could try is this:

With the battery and AC adapter plugged in, turn off the laptop.
Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery.
Plug the AC adapter back in(not the battery) and boot up to Windows
In Device Manager, uninstall "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" & turn off the laptop + disconnect AC
Now, re-connect both the AC and the battery & turn it on.

If that still did...
Well if the batteries you are getting are after market ones, it could well be the batteries.

To test the charger see if it will charge it fully when the laptop is on, and when the laptop is turned off. Not hibernate or sleep but off.

If it charges only when off, then the problem is probably the charger. Not charging when on is a common sign of it going.

If that still did not work, your AC adapter could be malfunctioning & recommend testing with another one. Worst case scenario, it could be a problem with the internal jack.

(didn't realize the page had even come up with a partial message. since it did, I should finish it)

Tried this trick on my Dell Studio 1737, didn't recalibrate the battery. Can't use Dell's recalibration tool as the laptop is running Linux (LUKS encryption, so can't do dual boot) Have a more detailed description at http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-3647177/troubleshooting-laptop-power-circuit.html . Thought I should comment here though that the trick of inserting the battery after power-up doesn't necessarily work (but hey, any trick to try is worth the test, isn't it?)
