Deleting recoverable files for good?

So I decided to try and see if I could recover files from my laptops SSD and to my surprise, a lot of files came up (documents, pics, videos). Should I lose or have my laptop stolen (or any case where someone else gets a hold of it), is there a way to permanently delete these files that I'm able to recover and also permanently delete files in the future so it doesn't even become recoverable?

There are plenty of programs that can overwrite "blank" areas of your drives with various levels of security. Doing so will add a lot of wear and tear to your SSD. There are also "file shredder" programs that promise to overwrite files at erase time, provided you erase the files with the program. Their usage is ???? on an SSD as well.

Yes, if you want to delete files so they become unrecoverable in the event your laptop is lost or stolen, as cherry blossoms mentioned, you can use a file shredder to do this.

Specifically, ours (disclaimer: certain versions of Avast have a Data Shredder feature) overwrites files that you have chosen to shred, multiple times, to ensure they can't be recovered. The nice thing is that you don't have to shred the whole drive, or whole folders, you can simply select specific files to shred if you like, reducing wear and tear on your drive.
