ASUS laptops come with a cheap ac/dc power brick and cord and they will not run off that ac connection if the battery goes dead so they must be in business with the battery/power pack companies.

Mine (ASUS A53S) has never just run on the battery and always sitting on a desk plugged in yet the battery eventually goes bad and then it will not even start off the ac plugged in and you end up having to buy a new battery and that new battery better be charged since you can't even charge the new battery unless the computer boots up and is able to start the charging.

I have had mine for almost 7 years running 24/7 with the ac plugged in and am on my 3rd battery and 3rd power block and cord since they go bad.

I also had problems with that dc jack on the left side of this laptop and had to take the damn thing all apart to see that plug needed to be replaced and soldered on the board and they put it too close to the cooling system for the CPU and fan so it was a pain in the ass to do.

The computer has been great EXCEPT this part.........pitiful job with installing this dc jack to the board and mine NEVER moved around like most people do with a laptop.

I even caught that cord getting so hot where it plugs in that it started to melt and it can no longer use the GeForce GPU for data processing so it is retired from doing that.

Hard to replace a laptop with an i7 8-core and ssd with 8GB ram for the price I originally paid for this one.

If not under $800 I will just give up and use one of my desktops since they are much easier to find and repair any problems.

(the ASUS fan inside was as usual a pitiful $5 fan since all companies are so cheap they can't even use a decent fan)
