Hello. I own Dell Vostro 5568. Earlier today i was surfing the internet and my laptop just shut down instantly just like that despite the fact that i had completed charging it like 30 minutes before (i had like 85% left). Seemed weird and i couldnt turn it back on. Then i connected the charger and i could turn it on. I just let it go. An hour later the same thing happened but now i cant turn it back on even with charger plugged in. Even holding the power button does not help. Please what can i do?

Try the following and see if it will turn on...

1. Unplug your charger cord.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Press and hold the "Power" button for 30 seconds.
4. Now plug back in the power/charger cord.
5. Now put the battery back in.

If this doesn't help, then test the power cord to see if it is good. Either try your cord in another device, or try another devices cord in your laptop. You may also want to try charging it when the device is off, rather than on. If it works then, the cord is probably the issue.

Should that not be the problem, then check the battery to see if it needs replacing.

NOTE: While the battery may be complicated to get to, it should be replaceable. Unless it is under warranty, then you should contact the manufacturer.

Hello again, so my original problem was fixed by connecting and deconnecting the charger from laptop and it finally started up and everything was OK until today when i noticed that ever since the previous problem everytime i booted the laptop up, there was this blink - like for one second the screen just went black and then suddenly ok. It has been bugging me ever since and then i tried moving the sceen just a bit backwards to improve the angle. And suddenly the whole laptop shut down with 40% of battery juice left and i couldnt start it without the power source but once i connected it and started up the laptop the sceen just went off - black and i couldnt do anything with it. Turning on and off does not help. The power button light suggests the laptop is on but it does not make any noise, completely silent. I must be going crazy.

So it may be your display that is your issue. Or a connection to it. Try this...

1. Turn the laptop off (not sleep or hibernate but off).
2. Connect an external monitor to the laptop.
3. Turn on the external monitor.
4. Turn on the laptop.

NOTE: You may have to press an "external monitor" button. Could be the f4 button or a button with two monitors on it, for the external monitor to work.

If you can see fine on the external monitor, then your attached display, or the ribbon cable that connects it, are your problem.

If you can't see on the external monitor at all, or the problem occurs on the external monitor as well, then it is probably the graphics card/GPU that is the problem, which may require the motherboard be replaced.

Yeah, i tried the external monitor and it was working fine. I also noticed that the internal monitor is working but the brightness is so low i couldn't see it. The brightness will not change, it is just ultra dark and impossible to see anything on the monitor. Combined with the charging mentioned earlier, i decided to give it to dell as it is in warranty. Probably faulty monitor, maybe even motherboard combined with those charging problems. Thanks for your assistance :)
