Hello,
I recently bought this new laptop, it seems to operate smooth but when I use CoreTemp to monitor my temperatures, i get max Temps around 77-84C after running the program for a little while, without running anything demanding. Just by using google chrome or watching a movie, or even if I leave the notebook idle for a while i get these max temps... Is this normal?
Additionally to this I tried to play one online game (Dota2), which should not be really demanding... and my cpu temps reached 99C!!!! That's not safe isn't it?
Anyway for the time being I keep my cpu at a safe temperature range, I set it to operate at 80% of its capacity. Like this (80%) I get "normal" temps when idleing and gaming..
Any ideas? should I RMA? RMAing it would be really bad for me right now because I need it every day for my studies and I dont have another PC..

It's normal for this one. It doesn't have great cooling and will overheat no matter what and start slowing itself down.

If you look at this review
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Aspire-V15-Nitro-BE-VN7-593G-7700HQ-GTX-1060-Laptop-Review.207344.0.html#toc-emissions

You can see that when playing witcher 3 for 3 hours the CPU didn't go over 95C.

I thought Dota2 isn't anywhere close to being as demanding as Witcher 3... But the cpu reaches 99C in just 20 minutes of dota2.

How can this be normal? I think Tjmax=100C, so running at 99C should not be safe at all...
Is it possible that I damaged the cpu when running so close to Tjmax?

It is more than likely they were using throttlestop when playing witcher. I have same issue cpu goes past 90 degrees very very quickly and games tend to crash.

Make sure you have acer coolboost switched on as tgat ramps up fan speeds (though doesnt help much)

So i installed throttlestop and in the gaming profile i undervolted by -100 and i set the speedshift to 128...that seems to have settled cpu going past 90. Typically hangs around 80 to 90 when gaming (ghost recon). Can get it down to 75-85 if i also disable turbo (throttlestop option).

Hope this helps. Your laptop isn't faulty it is just has poorly designed thermals which is odd being as its a gaming laptop.

Hi Konspiracy,
Could you solve it in the end?
I have the same notebook. I had the same problem. I undervolted the cpu, got acer to repaste it, and used coolboost. After that my temps still spiked 90+ with cpu boost.

The solution was to use rw read and write utility to push my fans to the maximum. Now sometimes during the witcher 3 i can even see 68 degrees on my cores. If you wish more info let me know. My mail is [don't post your email address on the forum]

I had the same issues and took a leap of faith and repasted with Arctic Silver MX4, I guess it helped strip down some 10 degrees.

Playing GTA V for 10 minutes on maxed out settings it reaches 80 - 90, which is decent.

World of Warcraft windowed mode 1 hour, hits 75.

Coolboost app doesn't do much.

If you plan doig the same, there is a chinese video on YT repasting this model. Careful not to break the plastic clips and you'll be fine.

Hello,
first of all sorry for not keeping in touch all this time, I was really busy with uni and didn't bother much with the laptop.
The problem isn't solved yet though. Thing is, I brought my old Dell P2414H and hooked it up with a HDMI-to-DVI cable from amazon. When trying to play DotA now (the only game I play at the time), the cpu reaches to extremely high temperatures immediately after launching the game, resulting in throttle mechanisms triggering and thus the system turns off. So it seems the cpu is drawing even more juice/overheating more when the external monitor is hooked. this made gaming (a not very demanding game btw) impossible with 100% processor state. I even tried to reduce voltage by 125mV with throttlestop, but the same problem occurs: the system reads a spike of 100+C and immediately shuts down. Now for the cpu to lay at comfortable temperatures (~95C) I need to reduce the max processor state to 70% (without the external monitor the cpu stays at this temperatire range at 80% state).
Quintessence is, for now my laptop can manage. My apps and DotA run fine even at 70% processor state. I would consider maybe playing some other games too, which are a lot more demanding. But I dont even think about it. if the laptop can't handle a simple dota game. Imagine what would happen with a new game. Cooling pads alone wont save the situation.
So, I could try playing a bit around with the voltages, maybe if I lower it a bit more, it might drop below the critical overheating threshold. What stress testing software would you recommend? I only know prime95 for cpu

Hello
Using Throttlestop you also need to turn Turbo Boost off, With this thing off and some undervolting , my cpu temps wont reach more than 90 in the most demanding games
i get 88 degrees when playing rainbow six siege and with a 4fan coolpad i get about 83
notice that i live in a particularly warm area so ur temps might differ
And u can turn turbo boost on whenever u want to do cpu demanding tasks

I recommend to repaste with nt h1 therml paste. Last year acer made a mistake and they didnt use this eventhough I requested them. This year however it seems like they did.
Now After appliying nt-h1 thermal paste, with fans on max speed, in an airconned room with a temp around 22 degrees, a cooling pad that elevates the laptop from the table, plus undervolting, my temperatures even with turbo boost stays abetween 70 and 80 during heavy gaming.
