Hello everybody,

I'm reaching out to you guys because I see a lot of good forum topics about similar problems.
I've tried a lot of thing but my laptop still won’t turn on. Sorry for any bad English i hope u guys can understand what I’m talking about.

My laptop: Asus N56JN-CN035H
Vram: 2GB
CPU: Intel I7-4700HQ
HDD: 500G 5400R Sata
RAM: DDR3L 1600 2G+4G
OS: Windows 10

I connected my laptop to my Home cinema system (with HDMI). After this my laptop was switched of instantly.
When is press the power button it won’t do anything. After getting the battery out and resetting the electrical system I plugged in the power cord again.
If the battery is in, the lamp of charging the battery turns on. When i press the power button 2 lights, light up shortly. A light bulb icon and the Wi-Fi icon, with 1 second they turn off again and the laptop in unresponsive until i reset the electrical system again.
If i try turning the laptop on without the battery in it but just with the power cord I get the same results.

I've put in new thermal paste, I’ve checked the RAM. ( starting with one or 2 or switching them up) , I’ve tried starting up without the HDD. I’ve checked all the internal connections.

I'm afraid the motherboard is broken or something. Or is there a different possibility?

Please help me! I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a new laptop.
If I need to clarify anything feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance!

Jesse from the Netherlands

Most likely the motherboard is dead. That trick with getting rid of ALL power to the board...
Seems like the HDMI connection shorted out the motherboard. You checked a lot of things with it already. You can try unplugging all power, including the CMOS battery, hold in the power button for about 30 seconds, then without the CMOS battery try to turn it on. If that does not work, that pretty much guarantees the motherboard is dead.

I've tried your sugestion. I still get the same results except for 1 thing. The powerbutton now lights up shortly along with the otherr 2 lights. This happens as soon as I plug in the power cord.

Does this mean the Cmos battery needs to be replaced or does this mean that the motherboard is dead?

Most likely the motherboard is dead. That trick with getting rid of ALL power to the board and then discharging it fully with the power button is called "flea power", last resort to try to kick start a motherboard. If it does not work, the mobo is toast. If it was the CMOS battery issue, the system would have started up when on wall or battery power.
