Windows 10 Wifi Connection Problems

On a clean install of Windows 10 Pro on an HP Pavilion 17 (about 2 years old) with all drivers up to date, I have nothing but problems when connecting this laptop to my brand spanking new D-Link AC3200 with the latest firmware installed (previous firmware also a problem).

The Windows 10 laptop sees the router just find but it will connect only after rebooting the router. I have the laptop firewalls all disabled, rebooting the laptop, turning off the adapter and restarting, none of that works unless I reboot the router.

I would back date this laptop to Windows 7 but finding drivers for it is proving a little difficult...

A friend with Windows 8.1 on her laptop has the same problem on my router.

Meanwhile, my 10 year old, Dell Latitude E6510 with Windows 7 Pro installed has absolutely no problems connecting to any router any time. Any smart phone and my Linux laptop also connect with no problems.

From all that I have read, there are constant connection problems with Windows 8/8.1/10. It is a pain to have to reboot my router every time one of these OS's needs to connect.

Why do Windows 7 and earlier versions connect and these newer versions don't?

Any suggestions?

I've ran into this issue with a different sort of configuration. I believe the answer to your question is that developers focused on the transition from the horrible Vista to 7; that would be create reliable drivers and support.

Even when coming from 7 to 8.1 caused multiple issues on a customers computer because the manufacturer didn't create drivers for it, and used generic ones. I've ran into the issue of W10 not connecting to the WiFi just because it wasn't mean't for it.

Not sure if that answers the question at all, but I hope it works out for you.

Unfortunately, no... the wifi adapter on the Win10 laptop uses Ralink and I downloaded the latest driver from their website as well as the HP driver with no change. Unless I reboot the router the Win10 laptop will not connect to it even though it sees my network clearly. As I said, my Dell has Win7 on it and it never has any problems, ever, in connecting. It is very frustrating, the "latest and greatest" can't do what a 10 year old OS can do. If I could find all the Win7 drivers, I would back date the Win10 laptop in a heartbeat! Sigh...
