Here is the headset i have. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01I1Q52R0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The wireless work fine. The problem i have is that the mic will not work with my pc unless it is plugged into a mic only port. If i use a splitter or a usb headset/mic port it does not work. I sit far away from my pc and my keyboard has a mic/headset port on it. I have an extension going from that to the pc. Now this all works again only when the single 3.55 jack is a mic only port. I want this work in an all in one port that way i can have skype on the "chat" port and my pc game on the wireless. With a controller on an Xbox One it works fine as well. I am also making sure to use TRRS 3.5mm cables for the extensions. I just dont know why the mic works in a mic only port but not a combo port. The pc doesnt even sense any sound coming from the mic when plugged into a combo port. Any help would be appreciated.

Agree. Hold off on soldering. Truly believe that it should not come to that.

Especially as we have not identified the problem.

We had a saying one time: something to the effect of "beware of programmers carrying screwdrivers...."

Remember that product manufacturers are very good about touting what their product can do. They are much better at hiding what their product cannot do.

Will concede the cynicism....
So the voice transmission (microphone) via the transmitter to pc via USB connection between transmitter and PC is not working?

I.e.:

Headset and mic <~~~~wireless~~~~~> Transmitter [micro USB port] <-----USB cable ------> [USB Port] PC.

Can you try another micro USB to USB cable?

What devices does Device Manager see? Likewise Playback device and Recording device via the speaker icon.

Good that you are aware of TRRS, etc. May be some cable difference as shown in the following link:

https://community.playstation.com/content/pdc/us/en_US/pdc-communities/support/Consoles-Peripherals.topic.html/dualshock4_3_5mmpin-aCpR.html

Note the mic and ground reversal between Nokia and Standard for example.

Mapping it all out may prove useful.

Thank you for your reply. Device manager just sees the usb microphone and speakers. The bars on dont go up as i make noise and setting th epc to listen to the mic is silent as well. The headset has 2 audio connections. one wireless connection to a optical dongle. the other is the 3.5mm connection meant for chat. they even have separate volume controls. So it goes headset->dongle for wireless then headset->3.55mm connection->audio jacks for the chat interface. I'll look into the link you posted. i've never soldered before, so i hope i can figure out something else without doing that.
