I have a Dell laptop and connected an external monitor to it. When my laptop goes to sleep, I cannot wake my laptop or the monitor. I tried disconnecting my external monitor, but nothing happens. The laptop screen and the monitor are black. I had to reboot my laptop to get it to work. Is there a setting I can change to get the laptop and monitor to wake?

Solution
enter you pc bios

from pc off >
turn on >
hold down F2 (usually this key, sometimes its F8 F12 or delete button / the black load screen briefly tells you which button it is)

depending on the make of your motherboard, the settings will be different, but generally found in advanced > power settings.
some motherboard bios's dont have this option so dont panic if you cannot find it.

sometimes pll overvoltage can stop shake awake signals (because it protcts your system from small power spikes, which is what the wake signal can be interpreted as).

you can try disabling this option in the bios, it can solve some issues. if it doesnt solve yours, turn it back on.
