Just to make sure I understand - There is an indicator on the screen that the door that retains the SD card is open and the camera won't operate because it believes the memory card door is open.
Will the light go off if you press and hold the door in place? Have you checked to make sure there are no obstructions to the door closing properly?

Other than making sure door closes snugly, which you have already done, the only other thing I can think to try is a factory reset. Maybe someone who knows more than I will chime in and be able to help you.
