Recently I was cleaning my reliable laptop which is a Vaio svs1512dcxb (a.k.a svs151c1gl) and for my misfortune and lack of attention the audio ribbon cable got stuck in a screw hole and got "chewed", cursing me to a no audio experience while using my laptop since the ribbon actually broke. Replacing the whole audio board looked like my best option until I gave it a last try and fiddled with the ribbon cable a bit more, it's important to mention that either the cable was critical to the audio circuit or it was shorting the circuit since windows said that I didn't had speakers plugged in & I wasn't able to use the audio jacks, long story short.

I removed the ribbon cable and turned my laptop back on & to my surprise I had audio back on, however audio jacks still doesn't work.

It may be possible that the ribbon cable just bused the audio signal to the jacks & since it was shorting the circuit the whole speaker deactivated itself to prevent damage.

Can anyone confirm this?

Question from mariutoo : "Vaio SVS15 Audio ribbon functionality"

Recently I was cleaning my reliable laptop which is a Vaio svs1512dcxb (a.k.a svs151c1gl) and for my misfortune and lack of attention the audio ribbon cable got stuck in a screw hole and got "chewed", cursing me to a no audio experience while using my laptop since the ribbon actually broke. Replacing the whole audio board looked like my best option until I gave it a last try and fiddled with the ribbon cable a bit more, it's important to mention that:

1- The sound board has 2 ribbon cables attached to it (a 5-7mm one that apparently controls the LED lights on the board and a 12-15mm one that apparently send audio signals to the jacks)

2- Either the cable was critical to the audio circuit or it was shorting the circuit since windows said that I didn't had speakers plugged in & I wasn't able to use the audio jacks.
