Please help to revitalise and old laptop (2009)

SCOPE of the thread:
I am looking to "revitalise" an old laptop. I am kindly asking for help from the community.

I have 2 HDs with 2 different OS:
1) Ubuntu 16
2) Windows Seven
(I could choose between them from the boot)

What I did until NOW
On Ubuntu 16, NOTHING
On Win Seven I just uninstalled lot of old and non necessary software I am will not use.



I would like to help few advices in order to make this computer a decent one, perhaps re hardware, software, tools, what to do and check, etc.

I really hope you can help me.

You have two upgrades you can do, max out the RAM, replace the hard drives with faster ones, SSD is best, failing that, replace with standard drives but 7200rpm not the 5400rpm you have now. 120 GB SSD drives are pretty cheap now, especially if you get some used ones.
