Can I use cable withoutv WIFI

On cable for internet.WIFI lit up on modem .cable lit up.If I turn off WIFI I lose my connection to the InternetWhen I left click Inet icon,this pops up BelongUMHERDPT. Any ideas

You want to be able to watch cable TV without WiFi? What is that error message you are getting?

GEC,sorry my question was badly worded.I am referring to a Toshiba laptop which is on Ethernet cable.At the moment I am connected to the internet with WIFI only,& no Ethernet cable connected.I would prefer to be connected to the internet with Ethernet cable only & with the option of switching on WIFI if needed...this is how my laptop worked previously.Thanks

So...assuming your laptop has an ethernet port:
Obtain a Cat5e cable of sufficient length, and connect it to the laptop, and to a LAN port on the back of the router.

If you wish to switch it to WiFi, disconnect the Cat5e from the laptop, and turn the WiFi on.
