External Monitor For Gaming Help

Hi there folks! I've been looking into getting purchasing an external monitor for gaming. I would be using my laptop screen and an external monitor as a dual monitor setup. One of the monitors would be for the game itself while the other would be used for streaming, browsing the web, etc.

I do not have any knowledge of the whole dual monitor set up, what to look for, lag, etc.

I have a Samsung Notebook 5 NP530E5M.
NVIDIA GeForce 920MX - 2 GB
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7200U
8GB ram

I've been playing PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, DayZ, Miscreated, L.A. Noire and will probably be playing GTA 5 and Overwatch soon if it helps.

Would my laptop be able to handle a dual monitor set up? Which monitor would be best go for? I'm looking for one in the 150-400 dollar range.

Yes, your laptop can be hooked to a second monitor, as you have an HDMI-out port. You would need a monitor that accepts HDMI input (most of them do), or else you would need to use an adapter. As for which monitor, check your prefered store and chose one you like. Note however that the GPU in your laptop is nothing to write home about, it's a pretty weak GPU. So while you can hook a monitor, there's no point in having a super high-definition monitor, it will stress the GPU, making your gaming worse, and provide little benefit. So i would pick a cheap FHD monitor (1080p) at most (unless you plan on upgrading your computer soon, in which case it might be worth picking a good monitor).
